One of the biggest hits on television this year was the new HBO Max series The Pitt, a medical drama set in the emergency room of a hospital in the middle of Pittsburgh. The fifteen-episode first season follows a group of medical students on their first day in the ER alongside seasoned vets, each episode representing one hour in an increasingly stressful and unpredictable day.
Led by TV veteran (and ER breakout star) Noah Wyle, the medical drama was the most talked about new show in 2025, turning many of its ensemble into stars practically overnight. One of them is Isa Briones, a stage and screen actress who was on Broadway opposite her father Jon Jon Briones in Hadestown just months before The Pitt premiered in January.
Briones plays Dr. Trinity Santos, an intern with a chip on her shoulder and a lot of attitude. Santos begins the day establishing herself as fierce and unflinching, but in all the wrong ways. She’s not a team player, is overly confident in her fresh-out-of-med-school knowledge and immediately butts heads with senior resident Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball). Santos’s prickly nature led to some controversy and harsh reactions several episodes later when she reported her suspicions that Langdon was stealing drugs from the pharmacy.
Recently I spoke with Isa Briones about starring on The Pitt, being part of a breakout show, and being labeled as the show’s narc.
Isa Briones is Emmy-eligible in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Pitt.
